Brick Cleaning FAQs

Can pressure cleaning damage brickwork?

Absolutely — in the wrong hands it's one of the fastest ways to ruin a facade. Excess pressure erodes mortar joints and blasts the hard fired skin off the brick face, exposing the soft core underneath. Once that skin is gone, the brick weathers rapidly. Our test-patch-first approach exists precisely to prevent this.

Can you clean heritage or federation-era bricks?

Yes — older bricks and lime mortar get our soft wash approach: gentle detergents, long dwell times and minimal pressure. It takes longer but preserves the patina and the mortar.

What's the white powder on my brickwork?

Efflorescence — mineral salts migrating out of the brick or mortar as moisture evaporates. It needs specific chemical treatment; ordinary washing dissolves the salts and redeposits them, often making it look worse. We treat it properly.

Will cleaning restore the original brick colour?

In most cases, dramatically. Carbon pollution, mould and decades of grime dull brick far more than people realise — clients are regularly shocked at the reds and creams hiding under the grey.

Do you clean painted brick?

Yes, with soft washing that protects the paintwork while removing dirt, mould and cobwebs. High pressure on painted brick strips paint — we never use it.

How often should brickwork be cleaned?

Every 2–4 years for most Sydney homes. Brick's porous texture holds organic growth, so shaded and south-facing walls benefit from more regular attention.
